Netherlands Embassy in Vilnius, Lithuania

LOGIN Startup Fair 2016 Vilnius

The Netherlands Embassy in Lithuania looks back on a successful LOGIN Tech Conference 2016, which was held in Vilnius on May 5th and 6th. Part of this Conference, the largest tech event in the Baltics, was the LOGIN Startup Fair, to which the Embassy of the Netherlands to Lithuania contributed by bringing a substantial Dutch delegation of relevant stakeholders to Vilnius.

The Embassies of the Netherlands in the three Baltic States have identified three economic priority sectors for their activities: water management, sustainable energy, and creative industries. In light of the latter the Embassy in Lithuania clearly expressed their interest in being a part of the Startup Fair 2016 and closely cooperating with Enterprise Lithuania, the main organiser of the event.

The final Dutch delegation brought to Vilnius by the Embassy comprised of three representatives of startup accelerators, namely Don Ritzen of RockStart, an influential Dutch accelerator helping startups through funding and mentorship; Marc Wesselink of Startupbootcamp, the largest startup support organization in the EU and one of the top three largest in the world, and Alexander Matthiesen of Hightechxl, an accelerator focused exclusively on hardware startups; as well as two representatives from Dutch venture capitalist firms, being Nick Kalliagkopoulos of PrimeVentures, one of the most prominent venture capitalists in the Netherlands together with smaller venture capitalists, and Floris van Alkemade of henQ, an Amsterdam-based fund investing in innovative, ambitious B2B startups.

During the Startup Fair, Enterprise Lithuania hosted one-on-one meetings for all participating investors and accelerators with startups of their own choosing. In addition, the Embassy organised a business breakfast during the event, allowing our Dutch guests to network with Lithuanian stakeholders in the startup scene in an informal setting. Present at the breakfast were Agnė Selemonaitė (economic advisor to the Mayor of Vilnius), Marin Heideman (Digistate), Inga Miliauskienė (Lithuanian Venture Capital Association), Arvydas Blozė (StartupLT) and Donatas Keras (Practica Capital).

The Embassy considers the whole event to be a great success. This is not only due to Enterprise Lithuania’s impressive efforts in organising LOGIN, but also because we can already see concrete ties being established between the Dutch and Lithuanian startup scene. Several members of our delegation committed to either intensifying or starting bi-lateral cooperation with Lithuanian partners and/or startups.

The Embassy looks forward to an exciting startup future ahead! We will continue to be instrumental in this field for stakeholders on both sides, persistently strengthening the Dutch-Lithuanian ties.
